Choosing where to stay is the decision that shapes an Antalya holiday more than any other. The regions along this coast differ enormously in atmosphere, beach type, price and distance from the airport – and a two-hour transfer at the end of a long flight feels very different from a fifteen-minute one. Lara and Kundu
This is the strip of large themed resorts on a long sandy beach immediately east of the city. If your idea of a holiday is an all-inclusive hotel with pools, waterslides and evening entertainment, this is the obvious choice. It is also the closest resort area to the airport, which matters with small children. The trade-off is that there is little to walk to outside the hotels.
Kaleiçi and the city centre
The old town inside the Roman walls offers something entirely different: boutique hotels in restored Ottoman houses, cobbled lanes, the old harbour and restaurants a few steps from your door. There is no real beach here, but you are in the middle of the city and its history. It suits couples, culture-focused travellers and anyone who would rather explore than sit by a pool.
Konyaaltı
Antalya’s long city beach, backed by the dramatic Beydağları mountains. The beach is pebble rather than sand, the water is clear and deep, and behind it runs a promenade of cafés, museums and parks. It is the best option if you want a genuine beach holiday but also want to live in a working city with trams, shops and restaurants that are not hotel restaurants.
Belek
Purpose-built for golf and upmarket family resorts, set among pine forest on fine sand. The hotels are among the largest and most luxurious on the coast, and the beaches shelve gently, which parents appreciate. It is quiet and self-contained – excellent if you want the resort to be the holiday, less so if you want local life on your doorstep.
Kemer and Tekirova
West of the city, where pine-covered mountains drop straight into the sea. The beaches are pebble and the water is exceptionally clear, making this the best area for snorkelling and diving. Çıralı, Olympos and Phaselis are close by. It suits travellers who want nature, walking and clear water more than a giant pool complex.
Side and Manavgat
Side manages something unusual: a proper sandy beach resort built around genuine Roman ruins, with a temple on the headland and an amphitheatre in the middle of town. Manavgat next door adds a river, a waterfall and a large market. An hour from the airport, it is a strong middle option between resort convenience and real character.
Alanya
The furthest of the main regions, roughly two hours from the airport, and generally the best value on the coast. Long sandy beaches, a dramatic castle headland, a busy centre and the liveliest nightlife outside the city. The distance is the only real drawback – worth accepting for a longer stay, less so for a short break.
